Do you measure the top of the nob to get the diameter measurement?

On the Phoenix Faucets Replacement Acrylic Knob # PF287012 the quoted 1-3/4-inch diameter is measured at the knob's widest point, which is at the top between the molded ridges that provide a good grip. Please refer to the photo.
The knob does taper down slightly toward the bottom. At the very bottom of the knob the diameter is 1-1/2-inches.
