Question:
I am not familiar with most brands of exhaust, but am looking for a muffler that will give my truck the deep, bassy sound. I am not looking to go crazy loud and am wanting to just install something that makes my daily driver a little more tough. A local shop recommended a Flowmaster FX, but I am not sure due to the cheap pricing. Do you have any opinion on finding a muffler that will sound aggressive on start up, have a deep growl while driving, but not have an annoying raspy, droning tone? The truck is the 5.3 liter V8 with the standard 6’6 bed I believe. Double cab. Thanks!

If you are looking for a deep growl but not annoyingly so Magnaflow is the best option. They test their mufflers to be under 95 decibels from outside the vehicle but they also give off an aggressive throaty sound. The Magnaflow mufflers are less likely to drone than other brands.
There are two main things that need to be considered when choosing a universal muffler, fit, size and sound/performance. You will need to choose a muffler with the correct inlet diameter, and sized so that it will fit in the space provided under the vehicle. Also it is good to keep in mind that the larger the muffler the quieter it is. It looks like most of the custom fit mufflers for your vehicle have a 3 inch inlet.
I recommend the MagnaFlow Performance Universal Muffler part # MF14239 with a 3 inch inlet because it measures 5" tall x 8" Wide x 20" long and delivers a smooth deep tone. You still want to make sure you have the space for it.
If you want a full cat-back exhaust system I recommend MagnaFlow Cat-Back Exhaust system part # MF15270 for the GMC Sierra. This system is considered moderate with exterior sound with mild interior sound according to Magnaflow.
