You can definitely use the Malone MicroSport Trailer with J-Pro Kayak Carriers and Pilot Bike Racks # MPG461KB with your 2013 Ford Escape, you simply need a ball mount with the right amount of rise.
Assuming you have a 2" trailer hitch on your '13 Escape such as the Draw-Tite # 75758, all you need is a ball mount with the correct amount of rise, and the most economical option to get that 5" of rise is the Flash E Series Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w Chrome Balls # FA42-00-2400; you will need Pin and Clip # PC3 to secure it to your Escape.
The correct amount of rise or drop is determined by measuring from the top of your hitch to the ground and from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. Since the 18" measurement to the top of the Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG461KB is greater you will need a ball mount with rise.
I have added a link to a help article on how to determine drop and rise as well as a link to a review of the Fastway ball mount for you to check out.
