Do I Need a Sidewinder for a 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5-1/2 Foot Bed

I have heard that I will need to use a Sidewinder for my 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5.5 bed but I don't have a 5th wheel trailer yet and don't really want to replace it's pin box when I do get it. What is my best option?

If you do not want to use a rotating pin box like the Reese Sidewinder on your 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5-1/2' bed then I do have one option, the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer part # DM8550040 paired with the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails and Custom Installation Kit part # DM8552032-71.
The Demco Hijacker is an auto-sliding 5th wheel hitch which means it will move the connection point back away from the cab while making a sharp turn. This will eliminate the need to get out of the truck and engage a slider or replace the pin box on the trailer. This particular hitch has a 13,000 lb towing capacity which should be plenty for your Ram 1500 and it is made right here in the USA.
The other item I recommend for you is an in-bed wiring harness, the Demco 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness part # DM8555002.
