Does Installing Torklift Hitch on 2018 Ram 2500 Increase Towing Capacities

Question:
Hello, I have a 2018 RAM 2500 Diesel w/6 1/2foot bed and rear air suspension. It is my understanding that the TLD1109-30 tongue weight rating is 3,000lbs with weight distribution and is a single receiver that marries under the factory 2 1/2inch receiver effectively creating a dual receiver hitch. The factory tongue weight rating is 1,800lbs. Does the installation of this hitch change the factory tongue weight rating to 3,000lbs as well? Im not looking to exceed the factory limit, I just want to remove some of the flex of the factory receiver with my projection hitch installed. Also, what is the receiver size of this hitch? Thank you,

Expert Reply:
Going with a higher rated trailer hitch than the weight capacity of your vehicle does not give you additional capacity. With any towing setup you are limited by the lowest rated component as the overall capacity. This Torklift hitch part # TLD1109-30 does fit your 2018 Ram 2500 and is has more capacity than you'd need but your overall capacity is still 1,800 lbs tongue weight. The size of the hitch opening on this is 2-1/2 inches.
This hitch would flex less than your factory hitch but if you are seeing some flex you should probably verify that you aren't exceeding the weight capacity.
