Does Polar Aluminum Butt Hinge Hold Together with the Pin?
Updated 03/12/2019 | Published 03/11/2019 >
Question:
when the pin is pulled out, are the 2 plates separate, or 1 piece? Im looking to add this hinge to the bottom of a 3 way spreader gate for reinforcement, but would need to weld 1 piece to frame and other to gate.

The Polar Butt Hinge - Aluminum # PLR1005 will be 2 separate plates when the pin is pulled out. To replace the pin, you will need to line up the two sides and place the thrust washer in place to keep the friction to a minimum. You can weld these or drill them and use screws to attach. Being aluminum they have a much different melting point than steel.
