Why Did My Trailer Brakes Stop Making a Clicking Sound
Updated 03/11/2019 | Published 03/09/2019 >
Question:
I haven’t pulled my camper since last fall. Now I’m getting everything ready and notice where my trailer brakes use to make a clicking noise upon activation and now they aren’t. I haven’t pulled my camper yet, but according to the light on my tekonsha voyager there is a complete circuit. I pulled over and activated my brakes, but couldn’t tell much in the way of stopping power. Why did the noise stop all of a sudden? The camper is just a year old. Surely my brakes haven’t failed already.

Generally speaking, you should be able to hear a clicking noise which signifies that the magnets are engaging. However, over time as parts begin to break-in, the noise will decrease in decibels but this should not be of a concern unless you lose braking power. I recommend you turn up the brake controller, apply the manual override, and see if it locks up the brakes. If it does then you are good to go but if it does not you may want to check your wiring or test the magnets using the attached article.
