How Many Tires Chains Are Needed for a 2012 GMC Yukon Denali AWD

Updated 02/18/2019 | Published 02/15/2019

Question:

I have a 2012 GMC Yukon Denali, it is AWD. Should I get two sets of snow chains, front and back? or just one set, if only one set, where would the best placement be?

The best option for your 2012 GMC Yukon Denali would be install tire chains on each powered axle so a total of four chains would be needed. However, if you were only going to install two tire chains then I would use them on the rear axle as this will be where the majority of the power comes from on your drivetrain.

Please note that the owner's manual for your Yukon Denali states to not use tire chains because of the limited wheel well clearance. However, this is not really an option in certain situations as they can sometimes be required to pass and it is either not use them and end up in a ditch or use them and get to your destination.

If you have 275/55-20 tires on your Yukon Denali then I recommend using the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains part # TC2327. These chains have a diamond pattern which will offer better traction and a smoother ride when compared to ladder pattern chains. They also have color coded sections so they are easy to install. I can confirm the ease of installation as I have had a chance to install these for myself and they were much easier than most others. The chains are also class s compatible which means they are designed for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. If you have a different tire size please let me know.

I have attached an install video of these tire chains on a pickup but the process will be the same. I recommend you test fit them in your garage before you actually have to use them.
