Question:

Our Accord sedan has no hitch and we need one of those and a cargo carrier tray to get our daughter to school. Please also recommend a roof rack carrier, just in case, since she's got tons of stuff!

Expert Reply:

You can use the Curt Class I hitch # C11525 on your 2018 Honda Accord as long as you do not have the Hybrid version, then you can install a hitch cargo carrier. I have attached installation instructions and an installation video for you.

For a compatible cargo carrier I recommend the Curt fixed carrier # C18110. In this hitch carrier you can load up to 170-lbs of cargo. To protect more delicate items you might add a water-resistant cargo bag # e98990 or perhaps a cargo net like # C18200.

If a roof rack is also needed I recommend Yakima's Jetstream system since it will be quieter thanks to its aero-style crossbars that cut through the wind better than all other shapes. The sleek black bars will look great on the car too. For the complete locking roof rack order parts # Y00425, # Y28TR, # Y06123, # Y06159 and # Y07204.

For a rooftop carrier I recommend Yakima's Skybox NX 16 enclosed carrier # Y95AV. This USA-made carrier includes locks and handles skis as long as 68.89-inches. It will be ideal for lighter items while the hitch carrier will be best for the heavier items. You can see more on this cargo box in the linked video.

Last, I suggest a simple accessory step to make it easier to load and unload the roof cargo. Telesteps folding step # TE97FR is inexpensive, comes fully-assembled and pops open to instantly give you about a foot of extra reach for convenient access to the roof box.
