Question:

I had the Surco 5.0 Safari roof cargo rack installed on my 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4-door. I want to transfer the rack to my 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. My Traverse has a sunroof. If I purchase the Clamp On Adapters Item# SP1101 will that: 1 Fit the factory installed side rails on the Traverse? 2 Allow enough height for the sunroof to open under the installed rack? 3 Is there an alternate fit kit I should consider? Yes, the Surco Adapter Kit # SP1101 will allow you to install your Surco Safari 5.0 cargo basket like # SPS5060 on the raised roof side rails of your 2018 Chevy Traverse.

However, no maker of roof racks or roof-mounted cargo carriers recommends opening a vehicle sunroof/moonroof when these items are installed.

Apart from the risk of interference there is also the matter of noise. Any roof-mounted accessory item, whether a roof rack, cargo carrier or bike rack, will tend to generate a fair bit of wind noise, especially at certain specific speeds. For this reason it is very unlikely that you would even want to keep it open with anything loaded on the roof.

You may want to consider a simple inexpensive accessory that will make using the rooftop basket a bit easier, the lightweight Telesteps Folding Step Stool # TE97FR. This folding step weighs almost nothing yet it pops open instantly to give you almost a foot of extra reach for loading and unloading cargo items. It folds up for easy storage. I own this item and it is quite handy for reaching tall shelves as it is for use with a vehicle rooftop carrier.
