Why Is There a Flame Flare Up While Starting the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater
Updated 01/24/2019 | Published 01/23/2019 >
Question:
I purchased one of these Wave 3 heaters and lately during the start-up process where you hold in the button for one minute I typically get what can only be described as a flame flare up sometime during that one minute process. And that can be rather unnerving. I would like to know what causes this and how I can correct it.

Expert Reply:
The flame flare up that you described on the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater part # CAM57331 is caused by the flame spreader. The flame spreader then warms the thermocouple. Once the thermocouple is warm it will send gas to the pad which ignites and expels heat. There is no way to correct it as that is how the unit is designed to operate.
