Recommended Battery Charger for Auxiliary Battery

Updated 01/21/2019 | Published 01/19/2019

Question:

How do I get constant 12 volts back to trailer on 1998 Dodge Ram 3500. I have a trailer brake controller installed and all lights and brakes work, but does not help charge trailer battery. What am I missing?

It is likely you do have a constant 12 volts coming from the 7-way on your 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 and the reason I say that is the charge from your 12 volt pin is not enough to charge the auxiliary battery on your trailer, it is only enough to maintain it, which is likely why you think there is not a constant 12 volts (you never mentioned anything about testing it, just the trailer battery, which is why I'm making this assumption).

To charge an auxiliary battery on your trailer you are going to need a 12 volt battery charger. I highly recommend the CTEK MULTI US 3300 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger with Pulse Maintenance and Backup Power # CTEK56353 because it is an economical option that is able to charge either small or large 12 volt batteries and will also maintain them without overcharging them and shortening the battery's lifespan.

I have added links to a couple video reviews of this charger for you to check out as well.
