Question:
For a 2018 BMW X1. What do you think the best trailer hitch is to use for a bike rack? Im in the market for a new rack but I would first like to get the right hitch.

The trailer hitch I highly recommend for your 2018 BMW X1 is the Curt # C13303 because it will give you the best bumper clearance for use with a bike rack and is almost entirely hidden behind your bumper, as you can see by the accompanying photo.
This Class III 2 inch hitch has a black powder coat finish which helps protect it from corrosion, is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty. I have added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on a BMW X1 for you to check out.
Since you mentioned you were interested in a new bike rack with this hitch I strongly recommend checking out the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 because it offers a superb combination of function and style. The Sherpa 2.0 comes in your choice of colors: Black # SH22B, Pearl # SH22P, or Gray # SH22G.
This is a wheel-mount rack which uses ratcheting hooks to grasp your bikes by the front wheels, eliminating any frame contact with your bikes; it also has rear-wheel cradles with ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheels. The Sherpa 2.0 can be tilted down - even with the bikes loaded - with the press of a handy foot lever, and can also fold up for when the bikes are not being carried. It does not require any tools to install into your hitch as you'll only need to turn a knob to tighten the rack in the hitch; this also works as an anti-rattle device so you can get a quiet ride.
Additionally, the Sherpa 2.0 comes with a hitch lock to secure the rack to your '18 BMW X1 and a cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack, helping protect your investments. This is a lightweight, 32 lb rack which has a weight capacity of 40 lbs per bike. I have added links to a couple video reviews for you on the Sherpa to take a look at as well.
