Will the KH30904 model fit a gas 1991 VW Vanagon? The specs say it has a 1/2inch NPT thread size. The vanagon oil drain plug is m14x1.5. But I am not sure what the actual thread size of the drain hole is.

From what I could find the M14x1.5 oil drain plug on your 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon looks like it has a 1/2" diameter. The Kat's Heaters Oil and Coolant Immersion Heater # KH30904 you referenced has a 1/2" diameter as well but they likely have different thread sizes.
I recommend using a different type of heater like the Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater w/ Thermostat # KH1155 instead since it simply sits on your oil pan.
