Question:
I the a 2007 4Runner V6 with the factory hitch. The max tongue weight is 500 lbs with this hitch. This hitch is mounted to the rear cross member only not the frame rails on each side. Is it recommended to upgrade to a frame mounted hitch like the Draw-Tite Item # 75155to to use a weight distrubiting system?

We have hitches for your 2007 Toyota 4Runner that are rated for use with a weight distribution system like the Draw Tite part # 75155 but you should check the hitch you have currently to see if it's rated for a WD system or not. There should be a sticker on it that will indicate this. It will either state on it that it's not rated for WD or it will give two sets of capacities. One for weight carrying (no WD system) and one for with a WD system. If you see this then you are good.
Based on what you described I'm fairly certain the factory hitch isn't rated for a WD system.
For a WD system rated well for the capacities of the Draw Tite hitch we have the Equal-i-Zer Kit part # EQ37060ET which has a tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs. It also has 4 points of friction sway control and is considered by many to be the best WD on the market.
