Question:
installed one on a jd 4020 diesel tractor, how long should it take to heat up and also we installed ours horizonaly like the old one will this work?

The Kat's Heaters Thermostatically Controlled Circulating Tank Heater - 120V - 1,500 Watts # KH13150 must be positioned vertically for the thermosiphon to work correctly. The plug should be pointed down and the coolant flow arrow pointed up. The horizontal installation you referenced will not work with this heater.
The amount of time to heat your fluid will be dependent on the ambient temperatures and the number of quarts of fluid to be heated. The manufacturer does not give a time estimate.
