Question:

I have a 2016 Kia Sorento. I want to pull a kayak trailer and get a hitch mounted bike carrier. Currently, I have a full sized spare mounted under the SUV. I know your other hitches dont provide clearance and Id have to go back to a donut spare. Would this hitch provide any additional clearance for the spare tire its a tire width issue, not a diameter issue? Id like to keep the full size while having towing options.

I spoke with my contact at EcoHtch and they said that since they only test fit the trailer hitch # 306-X7320 with the OEM spare tire (donut) they wouldn't be able to confirm if it will fit the larger tire that you have. The other trailer hitches, like the etrailer.com # E98843, have more of a width issue but since the EcoHitch has a higher crossmember I believe that the larger diameter of your spare will be an issue.

If you like the hidden look of the EcoHitch and you still have your old donut spare then you can get the hitch and test the fit but you will likely need to put the old donut back on.

To tow a kayak trailer like the Malone MicroSport # MPG461G2 you also need a wiring kit. Since it sounds like you don't already have the factory Tow Package I recommend the T-One # 118583 because it provides you with the most reliable 4-Way connector and plugs in behind your tail lights.

Then to complete your towing setup you also need a ball mount kit like the Curt # C45036 but you will want to consult the linked ball mount article to make sure that the 2" drop is correcnt for your application.
