Thule Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD
Published 11/04/2011 >
Question:
I have researched a bit and have noticed that my vehicle shows a lot of cables vice the chains. I like this brand and type of chain for my truck which has the 255/70-16 AT tires on them. Thule doesnt offer my truck chains for it, but the tire size will fit them. Should I go with chains or cables? I have been told that cables slip a lot. I also like in Reno, NV we are very close to the Sierra Mountain range and we get lots of snow at times. Thanks.

As long as the owners manual of your 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd does not specify that you should only use cables I would personally go with chains over cables. They typically give better traction in the snow than the cable style chains.
The Thule Standard Snow Tire Chains # TH01571255 that you referenced would be a good choice for you as they are designed to fit on your tire size. I attached a review video for these chains as well as an FAQ article on Thule tire chains for you to check out.
