Question:
I have a small 2 horse trailer that has lights in the dressing room and stalls. THe lights work when the truck is attached. My question is - can I add a small battery to the trailer so that I can get a little light in there when the trailer is not attached to the truck? 5 or 10 minutes would be all thats necessary. Thanks

Yes, you would be able to install a battery on your horse trailer, and power the lights when the trailer is not connected to the truck.
What you will want to do is run the power wire, typically the Black wire, on the trailer connector and connect it to the positive battery terminal. You will want to ground the battery to the trailer frame, and then run the power wires for the lights to the positive battery terminal. Each light assembly should be grounded to a clean metal surface.
You will need to charge the battery every once in a while, for it to have power. When charging the battery, you will want to disconnect it, and remove from trailer. Since the battery will be connected to the power wire on the trailer connector, the battery will receive power and help keep power to the battery when driving.
When installing the battery, you will want to use a battery box like the Deka Battery Box, part # DW03188.
