Let's start with a trailer hitch and for your 2018 BMW X1 I recommend the Curt # C13303 because it will give you the most ground clearance and bumper clearance among the hitches that fit your '18 X1.

The bike rack I highly recommend is the the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 because it offers a superb combination of function and style. The Sherpa 2.0 comes in your choice of colors: Black # SH22B, Pearl # SH22P, or Gray # SH22G.

This is a wheel-mount rack which uses ratcheting hooks to grasp your bikes by the front wheels so there is no frame contact and also has rear-wheel cradles with ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheels.
