Question:

I purchased the Pop n Lock PL8250 because it was recommended for my 2011 F-150, but it does not actuate the lock mechanism both for lock and unlock. I manually moved the lever and it will only lock the tailgate but will not unlock it. Is this the wrong one for my truck? My truck has manufacturer date of Sept 2011.

Pop & Lock Tailgate Lock # PAL8250 is a correct fit for the 2011 Ford F-150 that has factory power locks on all doors and a plastic or steel tailgate handle with a manual lock. I confirmed these fits with Pop & Lock.

Is the lock getting the 12V power signal for both lock and unlock functions?

If you have a circuit tester like # PTW2992 you can confirm that power is reaching the lock actuator. If not, check your wiring for a potential short and check the fuses for the truck's power locks. I checked the online owner's manual and it notes on page 330 that the power locks are fused by a 20-amp fuse in position 20 of the interior fuse panel, which is located under the right-hand side of the instrument panel.

If the lock is getting power and there is a mechanical issue with the linkage then you can try loosening the installation hardware to check for proper alignment. You can also try lubricating the pivot points for the lock mechanism to ensure friction is not the issue.
