Question:

on my Chevy Volt will this roof rack hold a Cargo box. If so I am looking for an 18 cu ft carrier. Could you give me a list of which boxes would work. I am going to be traveling 1800 miles with speeds up to 80 mph. Will it be safe and not fly off. Thanks

The Yakima roof rack will absolutely fit on your 2017 Chevy Volt. For a complete rack you will need the Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425, BaseLine Towers # Y28TR, BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06137 as well as BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06126. I have added a photo showing this rack installed on a '17 Volt so you can see exactly how it will look.

In regards to a rooftop cargo box with 18 cubic feet of space I highly recommend checking out the Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box # Y07336. This will fit the 24 inch crossbar spread of the Yakima roof rack on your Volt and will not fly off your roof - it uses clamps around your crossbars which will tighten to your crossbars with the twist of a knob and pushing a cam lever down to completely close the clamp around the crossbar, which ensures the box will go nowhere.

This box is lockable as well as your gear will not get stolen but if you want to lock the roof rack to your Volt you need to add Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Core. To use one key for both the rack and the SkyBox you can use SKS Cores # Y07206; this is a quantity of 6 cores which will allow you to add 4 to the roof rack and change out the two that come with the SkyBox.
