Question:

I have my steps working 2 or 3 times then shutting down. I have checked the motor and does not seem to have any problems working disconnected. Steps are free from any moving problems. Does controller stop power to the motor after it has opened and closed or does power continue to flow to the motor in the closed or open position. Motor runs freely when working but warm after it shuts down. Wondering if controller current is constantly powering motor against itself causing overload?

The controller should not be constantly powering the motor. The controller module should only send power to the motor when the step is being extended or retracted. Since you say the motor is warm, it sounds like there is an issue as the motor should not be working that hard. It sounds like the motor is overheating so it could be the controller or an internal issue with the motor. I recommend testing the power going to the motor using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to determine if the controller is still sending power or not to isolate if the control module or the motor is faulty.

The Replacement Control Module for Lippert Electric Coach Step # LC301702 may or may not be the correct part for your step. If your step has the exposed gear like the attached picture, it will be the correct control module. If not, let me know the number on your step and I'd be happy to assist.
