What Typically Causes Trailer Sway with Bumper Pull Trailer

Question:

I own a 2006 GMC 2500hd duramax crew cab pick up. I tow a 2016 vibe 308bhs camper. Overall length is 35foot including hitch to bumper. Im currently using the reese pro series weight distribution with the 1200lbs bars and a single friction bar for sway. The camper weighs Hitch Weight 797 lbs Dry Weight 6952 lbs. We load most of our camping supplies in the front storage of the camper. The camper also has the spread axles thats supposed to be better for towing. Im still experiencing alot of sway when I get to about 55mph. No matter if its a 2 lane road with little wind or the highway. Ive read that I should be running 2 friction bars on this set up? The RV place I got the camper from said thats not needed ? They are the ones that set me up with this hitch system. I ped truck off and picked it up next day. Ive read that I should have gone with the reese dual cam hitch set up for that size camper? What are your thoughts? Thanks

The issue you are experiencing typically is due to not enough tongue weight. But if the numbers you listed are correct then you'd have the perfect amount to prevent sway. Have you checked out the trailer suspension? Other typical cause for persistent sway is worn out suspension that allows too much lateral movement.

No sway control setup will stop persistent sway that starts at 55 mph. That's something not correct in the tow setup that needs to be addressed.
