Can Battery Ban, on Trailer Split Up for Breakaway and Trailer Accessories
Updated 07/10/2018 | Published 07/09/2018 >
Question:
Im thinking of separating the house batteries in my 34foot travel trailer from the tongue batteries, and have a question. The trailer is tri-axle, with 6 brakes. Do I need to have two tongue batteries, or will one do? The plan Im considering is to have the tongue battery only for the brakes, and only charged by the tow vehicle. Then Id put house batteries inside to be charged by the onboard charger, and solar. I understand that batteries inside will need to be vented to outside, or sealed type. Thank you

I think your plan would work just fine. You'll need to make sure the breakaway battery though is charged at all times in the event of a trailer disconnect. Typically charging it off of the tow vehicle is adequate for this.
For a breakaway battery charger we have the part # 20011 that gets wired to the breakaway battery from the tow vehicle wiring.
