I just want to double check if it is possible to add a fifth wheel hitch to a 51/2 foot bed on my f150? Thank you

Yes, you can tow a fifth wheel trailer with your 2017 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed. There's only one slider hitch though that will provide you with enough turning clearance though. Most sliders can provide up to 12 inches of sliding clearance whereas with a bed as short as yours you'd need more like 22-1/2 inches of clearance.
So the hitch you'd need is the Demco Hijacker part # DM8550040 which has the clearance you need and automatically slides as you make tight turns.
For a rail kit to install the hitch in the bed of the truck you'd want the part # RP56034-53 which is a confirmed custom fit and would work well.
