Weight and Normal Movement of Yakima FullBack Bike Rack When Installed
Updated 07/03/2018 | Published 06/30/2018 >
Question:
Rack is VERY heavy? Not sure why it needs to be so heavy. Also, the rack appears to be allowed to swivel 2-3 degrees in the locked position, which allows the outside bike to move upwards and down~4inch -on bumps. Is this normal?

The Yakima Fullback Trunk Mounted bike rack part # Y02634 that you referenced weighs approximatley 21 lbs. While this isn't exactly super lightweight, it isn't quite the heaviest trunk rack we offer. The rack has to be strong enough to support the weight of two bikes so it needs stronger, heavier materials (metal) in the rack to give it the needed strength. It shouldn't move as much as you described though so that's not normal. If you check out the test course video I attached for a different version of this rack that had the same attributes except missing the locks. You'll see our demo guys take it over some pretty big speed bumps and the rack does not move like you mentioned. Does your rack move more or less than what you see in the attached video?
