Question:
Hello - I have a 2005 Subaru Outback and my hitch mount is recessed in about 6 1/2 to 7 from the end of the bumper to the mounts hitch hole. Im looking to buy a bumper cargo hitch with max. weight of 300 lbs. If i need an extension for the 1/1/4 hitch to recieve the bumper hitch will I loose the amount of cargo weight? thank you

Using an extender like the part # HES6 you referenced will reduce the tongue weight capacity (or downward force that can be safely applied to the hitch) by 50 percent. I would avoid using an extender if at all possible.
I would recommend the Pro Series 20 x 48 Cargo Carrier, part # 63155. It will fit your 1-1/4 inch class II receiver, and offers a 300 lb weight capacity. The shank is long enough to offer 11 inches of clearance measured from the hitch pin hole to the closest portion of the carrier, so clearance of your bumper will not be a problem. The carrier also has an angled shank that raises the carrier up 3 inches, to provide additional ground clearance.
A light kit is also offered, part # 20174 for incandescent bulbs, or part # 98174LED for LED bulbs. The light kits install into openings in the carrier, and are powered by the 4-pole trailer connector on the vehicle. If your Outback does not have a trailer connector, one can be installed by using part # 118461 for the Wagon, or part # C59236 for the Outback Sedan.
