Suspension Hanger Locations for Dual Axle Dump Trailer
Updated 06/07/2018 | Published 06/06/2018 >
Question:
I have a dump trailer that had torshion springs on it and I took them off to put on leaf springs the center to center axles were 35 inch from the factory. I have now two axles I want to put on that are 7000 pound apiece, with 25 inch leaf springs from eye hole to eye hole, they have four plates on each spring. if I put the new axles in the exact place as the old torsion spring axles where do I start putting the brackets at and how far apart measurements? I have 3 inch U brackets from eye hole to bottom, I have the said springs 25inch above. I have the butterfly bracket dont know the true name, that is 7 3/4inch eye hole to eye hole to hold both of the leaf springs, with plate brackets that are 4inch eye hole to eye hole that mount on the butterfly bracket to the leaf spring. I know some of my words are not correct on parts but can you help me on where to put the U brackets on using these parts at axles 35 inch apart? thank you.

There are some measurements missing that are important in giving you the exact positioning. I've attached a couple articles to assist with the dimensions you must calculate to get your precise 35 inch on center axles.
Your center hanger will be obviously directly centered between the two axles and then your other two hangers will be spaced identically on each side. Your spring from the center of the outside hanger to spring seat location is the dimension that would be extremely helpful. In the attached photo, that dimension is "C". Once you have that and know that spring seat needs to be at the center of each axle spaced out 35 inches apart, you will be able to determine your hanger location and then also what shackle straps are needed to attach to your equalizer in the center.
I've attached some photos to further assist.
