Raising Trailer to Gain Clearance for Fifth Wheel Hitch

Updated 05/29/2018 | Published 05/26/2018

Question:

I have a fifth wheel height clearance issue with my recently purchased E16 curt hitch. I can only get about 3 inches clearance from trailer to bed of truck. The height on e16 is at maximum height and Lippert king pin box is at maxim height. What will give me more height clearance? Again, the truck is a 2017 f350.

To gain height and add clearance your best option is to raise your trailer with what is called an over/under conversion kit, which moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack (please keep in mind this conversion kit is for use with double-eye springs only).

If you had a 2-3/8" round axle you would need Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 or if you had a 3" round axle you would need Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00.
