Question:

I have a 2006 Honda CR-V with no factory rails. I am looking for a rack system to handle a kayak/canoe rack, as well as perhaps a bike rack or ski box. I am somewhat confused about what complete system to purchase. i am interested in yakima or Thule, as it seems they have the highest quality product, unless you have other input. thanks!!

Out of the Yakima and Thule options for the naked roof on your 2006 Honda CR-V I recommend going with Yakima. The Thule options have bars that end inside the foot packs. This gives the roof rack a great OEM look but minimizes the amount of crossbar space that can be used.

To use a JetStream aero bar roof rack on your CR-V you will need the JetStream bars, part # Y00425, along with the SkyLine Towers # Y53TR, and the Landing Pad 8 # Y00228. If you would like to add locks to this roof rack then you would also need the SKS Lock Cores # Y07204.

One of our most popular roof boxes from Yakima is the SkyBox NX 16 # Y95AV. You could use this with the FrontLoader # Y02103 but I doubt you will be able to fit a kayak on with the roof box even when using a smaller carrier like the Stacker # TH830.

Please note that the roof rack has a weight capacity of 125 lbs so whatever you are carrying needs to be under that weight. The SkyBox weighs 47 lbs itself so that would need to be deducted from the weight capacity as well. To determine if the roof box will allow your rear hatch to completely open I would need you to measure from the middle of the front mounting points for the roof rack back to the line where your roof and hatch meet.
