Question:
I purchased one of your plug in harnesses. And it didnt work at all. It had a Uhaul tap into wires type and it caught of fire/melted at the trailer plug. So since the plug in didnt work what are the options to do a different way for a 2008 Equinox.

It definitely sounds like it was not installed correctly. I looked up your invoice and found the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56012 which is a confirmed fit for your 2008 Chevy Equinox. I've attached the video of this installation to walk you through each step on your vehicle to confirm the installation was done correctly.
It sounds like Uhaul did some work for you and it was not done correctly, so I want to make sure you don't have further wiring failure.
If you want a different option, I recommend the Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Install Kit # 119250KIT which is compatible with most vehicles. This will draw power directly from your battery so you will only capture the signal from the tail light wiring behind your tail lights where you attach without splicing into your original wiring.
