I have a 2018 grand Cherokee altitude with the black side rails. I am looking for cross bars to attach to them .

For your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the raised black side rails (non E group), I recommend using the Thule Evo WingBar System which is composed of the crossbars part # TH711520, part # TH480R for the mounting feet, and part # THKIT1656 for the fit kit. The roof rack fits we have for your vehicle do not attach to the side rails but rather the door jambs.

I like this system because it has aero shaped crossbars which will reduce wind noise and drag. The crossbars also have an integrated channel mount for use with channel mount accessories. If you would like to add locks to this system then you can do so using part # TH450400. I have attached a review video for you as well.

We ordered some 12ft angler kayaks and are looking to get a roof rack. I keep seeing these raised side rails that allow cross bars to clamp to them, but our side rails are flush with the roof. Please advise. We will be purchasing a couple j style racks as well, but need help determining everything we would need.

The side rails on the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee are indeed flush with the roof - "raised rails" mentioned above isn't the best way to describe them. If you have this model Cherokee with matte black flush rails, the above-mentioned Thule rack will work perfectly.
