Does the Foot Release on the Bulldog Square Jack # BD182701 Snap the Pin Back Into Place
Updated 04/09/2018 | Published 04/06/2018 >
Question:
Most foot release handles are spring loaded so that, when the locking pin is returned to the lock position, the pin will automatically pop into place as soon as the hole in the foot tube becomes properly aligned with the pin. This means the the foot can be manually moved up or down until the pin pops in all by itself. The design of the twin cam appears to be such that the operating handle cannot be returned to the lock position unless the holes in the foot tube are perfectly pre-aligned with the pins. This appears to be so because the pins are ed by action of the cam surfaces, not a spring. Thus, if the tube holes are not perfectly lined up with the pins, those same cam surfaces will prevent the handle from being raised to the locked position. It is unclear how one would know when everything becomes lined up correctly so that the handle can be moved to the lock position. In practice, how does this handle really function? Thank you for your help.

To engage the pin that holds the drop leg of the Bulldog Square Jack # BD182701 you will basically need to guess when it is aligned. This is a lot easier than guessing with a pin and clip that you would have to insert completely through the jack though. You just slowly move it until you find the next pinhole.
I have linked a review video for you to check out as well as the installation details.
