Question:
Does this unit have a hex head so that an electric drill can be used for raising and lowering? Im afraid that taking up 50 feet of wire rope will take me all afternoon with a 17.3 :1 gear ratio on a small hub. Do you have another recommendation if this isnt possible? Need to raise about 2000# and need min of 32 feet cable, but 50 feet would be better.

Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15721 does not have a hex head that is fixed and would allow you to use an electric drill attachment. For that I recommend using worm gear winch # DL11001 which does have a hex drive and you can use a 5/8 inch socket attachment to power the load in or out. Worm gear winches are brake winches so when you stop turning the drum, either with the handle or a drill, it will hold the load. There is also no minimum load required.
This winch can accept up to a 82 foot long 7/32 inch diameter cable, a 59 foot long 1/4 inch cable, or 49 foot long 9/32 inch cable (although a special reel would be required for a 9/32 inch). The cable we recommend the most with this winch is # DL24104 which is a 1/4 inch, 50 foot long cable.
Since the capacity of the winch is right at the weight you need to move I recommend using a pulley block # BDW20004 which will double the capacity of the winch. It will also take twice as many handle turns to raise the load but since you are using an electric drill that won't really matter. I included a picture showing how a pulley block would be set up. It would be similar for hoisting.
