215/75-14 Trailer Tire Size Recommendation for Boat Trailer

Updated 03/27/2018 | Published 03/26/2018

Question:

I bought the trailer used with the boat, and want to be sure I have the best / correct size and load range wheels and tires for it. Right now it has a 205/75 set of tires that are shot and the wheels are not the original wheels on the trailer. It is a 1995 Mastercraft and is a single axle boat trailer with the following specifications from the NMMA placard: GVWR - 3740 / Max Carrying Cap 2840 Rims 14 X 6 with tires 215/75 PSI 65 Length 21 ft Load Range D would be preferred since it seems to be at the top end of most Load Range C tires. This seems to be an odd width for the trailer wheel since most seem to be 14. 5.5, but I am not sure of the offset either. Does the wheel load rating matter more than the tire carrying capacity? Can I run a 14 x 5.5? What is recommended? Thank you,

Both tire sizes you mentioned 205/75-14 and 215/75-14 fit 14 by 6 inch wide and 14 by 5.5 inch wide rims. If you have either rim width currently you can go with either size.

Since the trailer calls for a tire size of 215/75-14 I'd recommend the Taskmaster tire part # TTWTRTM2157514D which has a Load Range D and capacity of 2,200-lb max load at 65 psi.
