Question:
i hooked up my sons 2016 chevy truck to my cargo trailer. it has a 7 way and when plugged in the parking lights come his truck and my trailer and instant power to the inside overhead lighting. With car locked and no power they stay on. My 2004 F350 when hooked up and only when ignition is or i turn on my parking lights it gives power to the overhead lighting and tail lights and side running lights. The only difference i see is the groove is at 12 oclock on my ford which is up and his chevy is at the 6 oclock down. can the new chevy vehicle have been wired differently? thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, the trucks could have been wired different in which the trailer connector still receives power while the truck is off. This has to do with the 12 volt power circuit that is ran to the trailer connector. If it is wired directly to the battery then it will receive power constantly but if it is tied into a powered switch then it would only receive power while the ignition is on.
If you would like to cut power to the vehicle's 7-way when the vehicle is off then you will need to install a battery isolator like part # PK5231201 however, the easiest and most common solution would be to just wire a switch to the lights inside you cargo trailer with something like part # PK34360 or similar.
