Question:

I have a 2014 Tacoma 4x2, 5-lug 2.7L truck. My truck has a 3inch lift with larger after market rims and tires. Its a daily driver with no off roading, no trailer, and rarely haul anything of significant weight. Do I need larger bump stops to compensate for the lift and larger tires in order to get a smoother ride and protect my suspension system?

Assuming the lift kit you installed on your 2014 Toyota Tacoma is a suspension lift and not a body lift, the distance between the bottom of the factory bump stop and top of the contact point would have been altered. Unless the kit you installed compensated for this, your suspension would indeed be lacking the factory safety measures.

I recommend installing a set of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancements part # TTORXR as long as you do not have the Pre-Runner edition. This system will do an excellent job of reducing body roll, increasing stability, and most importantly of all would be helping reduce the strain on your existing suspension components. However, since the vehicle has been lifted you will need to install multiples of the part # A25723-90AH00 (1") and part # TA25722-90P00 (1/2") until there is 1" of space between the bottom of the timbren spring to the top of the contact point or axle. Please note that the Timbrens are not going to produce a smoother ride but they will act as a buffer between suspension components.

The bolts used to attach the springs to the upper mounting cup are 1.5" long therefore, if the Timbren spacers are installed you would need to match the added lift to your new bolt length. For example, if you installed one 1" spacer and one 1/2" spacer then the new bolt you would need is a 3" long 3/8" bolt which can be acquired at most local hardware stores.
