Question:
I have a 2016 BMW 300 series. The tires are 225/45 R 18 XL. The manual specifies fine-link chains on rear wheels. Can you tell me which product you recommend? I cannot tell which are fine-link. I am purchasing to have in the trunk in case of need during random ski trips.

Tire chains are classified by a letter class to determine how much clearance is required on a vehicle for that particular chain to fit. Since your 2016 BMW 3 Series states, in the owner's manual, to use "fine-link" chains I recommend going with Class S chains, which require the least amount of clearance.
I recommend the Titan Chain, part # TC1550, to fit your 225/45 R18 sized tires. These are great chains that don't break the bank and are pretty easy to install. They also don't need any other parts to keep them tight. I do always recommend learning how to install these at home before you need them out on the road because they're a little confusing at first. But once you've done it a time or two you realize how easy they are. The chain thickness on these is 0.145 inches, or 3.7 millimeters.
Another option, that requires the least amount of clearance of any chain we offer, is the Konig K-Summit chains, part # TH02230K34. These install only on the tread of the tire and therefore reduce the chance of the chains contacting your vehicle. The install of these is more in depth and is even more intimidating when you first look at them. You absolutely want to learn how they install ahead of time because you need to determine which pieces and settings work for your vehicle. However, once again, after you've done the install a couple times they aren't as tough as they seem.
