Question:
I have been advised that I need to have a front and rear tie down rope attached to the Kayak and the car. I have a Cadillac SRX and I cannot find an obvious place to attach the ropes to the car. Do I need the front and rear tie down ropes. If so do you have any recommendations as to where on the car it can be tied down too?

You will need to secure the bow and stern of the kayak when it is mounted to the roof of the vehicle. The Thule Glide and Set Rooftop Kayak Carrier System, # TH896, comes with tie downs for this purpose. But like you have found out, finding a good tie down location can be difficult.
I would look for any holes in the frame at the front and rear of the vehicle you can loop the tie downs through. The ratcheting hooks should provide an easy on/off functionality once you locate a good tie down point.
You may also be able to use the Hood Loops for Thule Bow/Stern Tie-Downs, # TH529. These will provide more convenient locations for the tie down ropes. Without the bow and stern tied to the vehicle, you can end up with a kayak projectile during braking and accelerating.
