Installing a Tonneau Cover on 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 with Drop-In Bed Liner

Published 07/01/2011

Question:

I have a 2005 Dodge 3500 with an 8ft bed. I would like to know if I can use the # 834532002450 Tonneau cover with a molded style bed-liner. With the bed-liner having the sides that go all the way up and over the box rails, how do they normally use the included rail mount clamp units? Will mounting the side rails on the inside of the bed-liner, make the side rails of the Tonneau cover be too close together and cause the cover to not fit properly?? I like the 1-1/2 elevation on this unit because it may allow me to leave my fifth wheel hitch in the bed while still getting the cover up and over it. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks

I spoke with one of our friends at Access, the manufacturer of the tonneau cover. He told me that the LiteRider Roll-Up Tonneau that you mentioned will work with a drop-in bed liner. In order for the clamps to attach to the underside of the bed rail, 6 one inch holes will need to be cut into the bed liner at each attachment point.

The extra thickness caused by the bed liner on the inside of the truck bed side rails will not affect the fit.
