can I use this as a permanant connection so that it is easy to disconnect from my water source? this would be great for watering my lawn with the sprinkler on a hot day.

The Camco Garden Hose Connector # CAM22484 that you referenced is not meant to be left unattended since the sleeve just slides right over the faucet. This connector is supposed to be used for low pressure applications like filling up your RV tanks.
If you are interested in a quick disconnecting solution for your water hose then I recommend looking at the Camco Quick Hose Connect # CAM20135 which is more secure and can be left unattended. This connection allows you to effortlessly remove your hose from your water source as is demonstrated in the attached review video and is the perfect solution for you to water your lawn.
