Can the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Part # C13429 be used with a Weight Distribution System

Published 01/09/2018

Question:

Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2inch Item # C13429 is rated for 3500 lb GTW and 350 on tongue weight. I think is however, not rated for weight distribution system. I tow a travel trailer that weighs 2700 lb dry weight with my 2000 Lexus RX 300 AWD. I load it to 2900 lbs. It has a tongue weight of 340 lbs. I use a Blue Ox Sway Pro weight distribution system and installed a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. I currently use the Curt C13429. Ive travelled over 2000 miles over the course of few months with my current set up. I didnt know my hitch receiver was not rated for weight distribution system and my concern is that it would not be able to handle my current situation. I am still below the max rating and not going over the capacity. Should I be concern of any safety issue?

You are correct that the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C13429, is not rated for use with a weight distribution system and should not be used with one.

we used to carry a Hidden Hitch that was the only hitch we had for your 2000 Lexus RX 300 that's rated for weight distribution.

Another option may be to use a sway bar, like the Reese # 83660, instead of the SwayPro. It'll still fight trailer sway but obviously you would lose the other benefits of weight distribution.
