I do have an option for you, however there is not a gas strut/shock absorber style tailgate lift available that is confirmed to fit your 1996 Ford F-150.

I instead recommend looking at the Hopkins EasyLift Truck Bed Tailgate Lift Assist # 74211. This product is confirmed to fit your truck and features a torsion bar that will install between the truck bed and tailgate to allow for easy raising and lowering of the tailgate. The torsion bar takes on the tailgate weight when opening and the stress on the bar is released when closing, making for simple and smooth operation.
