Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the DeeZee Tailgate Assist Custom Tailgate-Lowering System for Pickup Trucks

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist custom tailgate lowering system. Now, this is a custom fit for the 2019 through 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 and the Chevy Silverado 1500.So basically, this is just going to help us lower our tailgate without it just slamming down. And then also it helps to make it a smooth operation to put it back up into place. So it prevents any kind of injuries from that tailgate coming down too hard on your chest or your knee or whatever the case might be. It also prevents it from knocking into anything that you might have hitched up to your trailer and just allows that tailgate to come down nice and easy.There's no drilling required with this.

They're really easy install. Basically, you're just going to replace the bolt that holds your cable in place. So you'll take that out, put this bracket over in place, and then replace that nut, so then your cable still attaching there, and just below it, we'll have our shock, which snaps onto this little ball joint. And then the other end will snap onto this bracket, which actually goes on our tailgate. And it just installs with some of the pre-existing hardware there.

Then it does come with instructions to lay out how that all that connects together, but basically, that's the idea is that we'll just have these two connection points. And actually, it probably would help if I did it the other way. Cause it has this little band that expands out and lets it drop down on that ball joint. So it does kind of want to turn, and since this isn't installed, it makes it a little bit more difficult to show you. But...there we go.So this is mounted upon that cable tie.

This is mounted upon your tailgate so that stretches out as you drop your tailgate down and then comes back to rest whenever it's fully upright. This little piece is just a piece of Mylar to help prevent any kind of rubbing from those components as they go past each other. So pretty easy to install. Just takes a few tools to undo the pre-existing hardware and get everything in place, but no modifications to your truck. If you do decide that you don't want it, you can always just take it off, and you're not changing anything about the vehicle.

So not voiding any warranties or anything like that, but again, it just helps that tailgate to drop down easily, and it makes loading things into your truck a little bit easier there as well. It should last for a long time since it has been tested extensively. And it does have a three-year limited warranty from Dee Zee.
