Lid on the UWS Toolbox Still Opens While Locked
Published 12/13/2017 >
Question:
Situation: I work for a Utility company where our work trucks use CH501 as our tool bin locks around the truck, unfortunately that leads to co-workers getting into each others trucks to use/steal their tools. My Goal: to find the correct bin lock so that I have 1 bin that is keyed different, but still locks than the rest- so that I may keep my more expensive/personal tools in. Results so far: Ive purchased/installed from you guys the CH505= installation was okay, but in the locked position the doors would be able to pull slightly outward-still locked, but not flush and with extreme force could maybe-open up, also after much use my ch501 keys could actually turn the new ch505 lockset. I recently received my order for a CH502operator recommended unfortunately the catch arm length must be way off because I was able to open my bin door while in the locked position! wrong piece again. Before I continue to keep ordering-would you be able to pinpoint the exact match Ill need for a CH501 that has the exact same 5/8inch if not ever so slightly longer-catch arm length match? Thanks for your response

All of the replacement locking cylinders we have for the UWS toolboxes have the same dimensions and catch arm length. The cores are keyed differently but other than this feature they are virtually identical.
The only thing I can think of as to why the lid would open while locked would be that the handle has become loose over time and the spring or other internal parts have become worn and ineffective. Therefore, I recommend replacing the handle and locking core together using the Replacement Locking Paddle Handle for UWS Toolboxes part # UWSLOCKING.
The replacement handle/lock will come with a lock and 2 keys which can have a key number from CH501 - CH510.
