The Camco Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator # CAM59005 has two brass check valves that include a small stainless steel ball. This steel ball is what blocks gas from the full tank from exiting the port for the empty tank. Pressure from the full tank presses the ball against the valve for the empty tank to block gas flow.
My contact at Camco advised that a small spray of an aerosol lubricant like WD-40 or PB Blaster often effectively removes the residues that can build up in that part of the regulator. Additives in LP gas can leave behind residue that could cause this issue. Sometimes a spider web or part of an insect can cause the same issue. All of these things can be tough to see.
If you apply the lubricant and still have the issue then I would replace the regulator. This Camco product carries a 1-Year Warranty so if yours is still within the warranty period you can contact the seller for warranty replacement.
