Question:
Hello, I have a factory trailer hitch receiver on my 2015 VW Touareg Lux. Can you confirm if Item # HM40975 will fit my vehicle? I have an aluminum trailer for motorcycles with a 4pin connector that I need to tow.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Hopkins 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket # HM40975 referenced in your question is intended as a factory replacement. If your VW Touareg came with a factory 7-Way connector and you need to replace it, this item will work perfectly.
Otherwise, if your vehicle does not have an existing factory connector at the rear bumper, I instead recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118668. This custom-fit harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located behind the driver and passenger side tail lights. Once installed, you will have a 4-Way connector at the rear of your Touareg to connect with and power your aluminum trailer's signal lights.
I have attached the written installation instructions that you can use for reference.

I would like to know if there is a 7 PIN and 4 PIN connector with the T1 harness. I own a trailer with electrical brakes and I want the to work when towing. (Yes I will have a actuator installed as well to control the trailer brakes). My vehicle has the option 1D8 which is the ready for hitch option. But VW does not sale the wiring harness anymore. This option metioned above calls for a 7 PIN connector, but there is nothing other than the cable to actually plug the connector. However, without the VW module is useless, thus getting me to square one again. Therefore I would like to get a harness that allows me to plug the 7 PIN connector that the trailers has. Thank you.
