Why Can't Weight Distribution System be Used with Curt Trailer Hitch on 2018 VW Atlas
Updated 11/24/2017 | Published 11/23/2017 >
Question:
In the description it says not rated for weight distribution system. So I can’t use a weight distribution system at all? What negative impact would I have if I used a distribution system with this hitch?

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13366 referenced in your question, which is confirmed to fit your 2018 VW Atlas, is not rated for use with a weight distribution system. You cannot safely use a weight distribution system with this hitch on your vehicle. The issue is that the spring bar tension that a system puts on the hitch and vehicle is simply too much for some hitches and vehicles to safely handle. This pressure can potentially lead to damage both on the trailer hitch and vehicle itself.
There is not a trailer hitch available for your VW Atlas that can be used with a WD system, which means that the vehicle itself is likely the limiting factor.
I have attached the installation instructions for this trailer hitch that you can use for reference.
