Can Rims for 205/75-14 Sized Tires Handle 65 PSI if Increasing to 215/75-14 Sized Tires

Published 11/11/2017

Question:

CAN I PUT 215/R7514 ON RIM WHICH CURRENTLY HAVE 205/R75 14? 215 REQUIRES 65PSI WHILE 205 IS 50 PSI. WILL RIM HANDLE ADDITINAL PRESSURE THANKS

Most likely the 215/75 R14 tire will fit just fine. As long as the rim isn't a 5 inch rim. A 205/75 R14 tire can be on a rim as small as 5 inches but the larger tire can't go any smaller than 5-1/2. So measure the width of the rim from where the tire touches it and make sure it's wide enough.

Chances are the rim can handle the 65 psi. It's actually the valve stem of the wheel that determines if it can handle the psi or not and most stems are rated to at least 65 psi. If yours isn't, or you don't know, you can replace the valve stems with part # AM20903 which can handle the pressure of the larger tire. Or if you want more peace of mind use the stems rated up to 80 psi, part # AM20904.

It sounds like you might already have tires you want in mind but if not I recommend the Provider, part # TTWTRTM2157514D. They're rated up to 2,200 pounds at 65 psi and have a maximum speed rating of 91 mph.
